Peer Review #2

  1. Hi Melissa,
What a great post! Having worked in customer service I totally connect with putting on fake smiles. `Fake it til you make it’.

The second verse onwards you invoke the sentiment of summer. I previously worked in Bondi Junction and every afternoon during summer when leaving the heavily air conditioned office, the heat would hit you right in the face. All I would think of during that train ride home to the Inner West would be the ice cold beer waiting for me in the back fridge.

The images you conjure in your piece are the essential ingredients for a perfect summer: the paddle pool, the case of beer, Stevie Nicks (!). From your little rest stop in the damp lawn on the way home to you and Loretta taking the time to admire the stars in the summer sky. The timing of your post, as we come out of winter, is perfect. It reminds me of a quote by Albert Camus:

“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”

I am so happy to have read your post. I think this is my favourite piece of writing on any of the blogs I have seen so far.
